Introduction

Pikey Peak Trail Trekking, a short lower Khumbu region trekking with a great view is newly discovered trekking destination in Nepal. The peak Pikey is one of the highest hill and scenic view point in Lower part of Solukhumbu. The name “Pikey” is came from the name of a Sherpa deity. The highest point of our trek is at Pikey peak with an altitude of 4,065m/13,333ft from where we can have great sunrise and sunset views of Himalayan ranges including Mt. Everest, Makalu & Annapurna. Pikey Peak Trek is an opportunity to explore charming cultural village settlements, ancient Buddhist cultural monasteries, and Chhortens, where the largest monastery we explore is Thupten Chholing. During the festival time we can explore local people worshiping their god performed with unbelievable Shamans.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m/4,592ft) and transfer to Hotel.

Our airport arrival and departure representative will be at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will be transferred to the hotel and our staff will help you until check-in procedure ends at Hotel.

Day 02: Guided tour around world’s Heritage sites of Kathmandu.

We will take you to an interesting tour in the entire city of Kathmandu and thereby allow you to view worldwide heritage sites, which include Pashupatinath Temple, Durban Square, Bouddhanath Temple and so on.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Phaplu (2,470m/8,101ft) & Trek to Salleri (2,390m/7,839ft).

From Kathmandu, we will take a flight to Phaplu which takes approximately around 35 minutes. After landing at Phaplu we will start our trek to Salleri where we can wander around the busy local market and make visits to fascinating monasteries such as Chewang Monastery.

Day 04: Trek from Salleri to Ghunsa (2,250m/7,380ft).

Leaving Salleri we will follow the trail that passes through several cultural and traditional villages inhabited by Tamang, Magar and Sherpa tribe communities of Nepal. During the trek, we will have good views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful landscapes. We will continue our trekking until we arrive at Ghunsa.

Day 05: Trek from Ghunsa to Pattale (2,840m/9,315ft).

Today we will trek on a moderate trail that passes through several monasteries and beautifully painted mani walls. At Kerung we will make a visit to some of the ancient monasteries and take a look at the Buddhist stupa. Along our trekking route, we will get chance to interact with local peoples mainly with Tamang, Magar and Sherpa community backgrounds. We will trek until we arrive at Pattale.

Day 06: Trek from Pattale to Jhapre (2,820m/9,249ft).

From Pattale we will trek exploring the rich flora and fauna of the region. The area is rich with wild orchids offering trekkers an awesome feeling for trekkers while trekking. Our further trekking passes through additional monasteries and Buddhist stupas. After arriving at Jhapre, we will spend some time watching the traditional and cultural local performances in Jhapre which is definitely one of the best ways to understand the culture of the region.

Day 07: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey peak (4,065m/13,333ft).

Leaving Jhapre we will follow the trail that heads higher up into the alpine vegetation. Gradually ascending we will trek through monasteries dating back hundreds of years, Buddhist stupas, and mani walls. We will continue to trek through several yak herding open fields with good views of the surrounding environment. We will camp at a good camping site near the base camp of Pipek peak.

Day 08: Trek from Pikey peak to Junbesi (2,675m/8,774ft).

Pikey peak base camp is one of the best spots to witness the morning sunrise view. We will wake up early for the magnificent sunrise view over the Himalayan Ranges from Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri as well as Mount Everest. After spending quality time in the morning, we will follow the trail that is an easy downhill trekking through the scenic landscapes and scattered settlements to arrive at Junbesi.

Day 09: Hike to Thuptenchholing (3,100m/10,168ft) & back to Junbesi.

Today we will hike to Thupetenchholing where we will be witnessing majestic views of the snow capped mountains and return back to Junbesi for the night stay

Day 10: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2,470m/8,101ft).

From Junbesi we will start our trek following the trail that is an easy downhill walking. This is the last day of our trek, therefore we will take it easy and try to enjoy every bit of our trek. At Phaplu we will celebrate the end of our trek with tasty local food and Sherpa cultural programme.

Day 11: Fly from Phaplu to Kathmandu.

Today

Day 12: Farewell, departure transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport.

Our Airport representative will drop you at the Airport as per your flight schedule.

How hard is Pikey Peak Trail Trekking ?

Pikey Peak Trail Trekking is considered as a moderate trek. There are numerous challenges like the rugged terrain, steep slopes, trekking route through stone stairs and continuous walk of 5 to 6 hours per day. That being said, Pikey Peak Trail Trekking can be done by travelers who are physically fit.

The best season for Pikey Peak Trail Trekking is during Spring (March, April and May) and Autumn (October and November). What about altitude Sickness ?

Normally, Within 12-24 hours after ascending a certain height(1,500 to 2,500 meter above sea level) altitude sickness symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, sleep problems, loss of energy, and shortness of breath are seen. In case of any altitude sickness symptoms we will apply medication and descend immediately for acclimatization.
