Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek commences at Bagdogra to provide a good opportunity to explore two of the biggest Bhutanese cities named Thimphu and Bagdogra. Trekkers and tourists both will get a detailed insight into the ways of life led by local area people.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01: Trek from Gynekha Village to Gur (3290m, 7km).

We will start with our trek at the beautiful Gynekha village and starts with a short descent to the nearby river. After we cross the river, you will start by climbing until and unless you reach a big rock platform to get a picturesque view of the surrounding valley. After two hours further, you will reach Gur i.e. an area comprises of yak pastured just to benefit your main trail.

Day 02: Descend to the Labatama Valley.

The second day of our trail takes you to cross high ridges, from where you get many beautiful views of the surrounding and nearby mountain-based vegetation. You will be able to cross the first mountain pass marked via a big cairn and get a spectacular view of the Kanjenjunga Mountain in Sikkim and many other Himalayan mountain peaks belonging to the Bhutan region. After this, as you start with descending the mountain pass, you will get a complete view of the Dagala mountain range, along with yak herder and meadows camps. Now, you already descended in the valley of Labatama and started climbing gradually from the valley by passing from many yak herder huts before your arrival at the Uthso Tsho, while you will find the site of your camp just nearby the lake.

Day 03: Relaxation and Water Activities in Labatama.

We will dedicate the third day of our trip to relax and recuperate in Labatama. Here, the three lakes Hen Tsho, Reli Tsho and Jama Tsho constitute an ideal place to be the part of the excursion. These lakes encourage hikers to grab the opportunity of involving in trout fishing activities.

Day 04: The trail to the West of Dala Tsho to Reach Panka (4,520m to 4720m, 8km).

Trail of today involves climbing to the west of Data Tsho to move to a saddle located at 4,520m. Here onwards, you will get many panoramic views of the majestic peaks of the Himalayan region through the complete descent. The major mountain peaks visible to you are the Mount Everest of Nepal, Mount Kanchenjunga of Sikkim in India, Mount Jichu Drake, Mount Jomolhari, Mount Khangbum, Mount Tshering Gang, Mount Gangche Ta, Mount Tsende Gang and Mount Masang Gang. However, if you want to get better views, you may climb further close to the respective saddle with a height of 4,720m. Later on, by starting from the saddle, you will find the path as descending by passing from a few huts of yak herder towards the Doccha Chhu and finally move on the slope to reach at Panka..

Day 05: Descends to the Talakha Gompa via Tale La Pass and other mountain passes (4,180m).

On this day, you will cross various mountain passes, but no one of them requires any major climb, while on your way, you will find varieties of mountain birds and blue poppies in the area. Later on, once you cross the Tale La Pass, i.e. the last mountain pass at the height of 4180m, you will go for a long descent to Talakha Gompa. We will set up our camp for the day behind the monastery and wake up early to perform prayers with the local monks. Other than this, the Gompa lets you to get an excellent view of Thimpu, the capital city of Bhutan.

Day 06: Walk to the Chamgang Village (6km).

On the last day of your trekking trail, you will experience a short walk downward towards the feeder road to lead to the Chamgang village.

Day 07: Chamgang Village to Thimphu.

Today, we will return from the Chamgang Village to reach at Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Here, we will experience sightseeing and later on, stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 08: Thimphu to Paro International Airport.

Now, we will drop you to the Paro International Airport, so that you may get your flight on time for the return journey.

What is the best Time to Travel Bhutan ?

The most favorable time to travel Bhutan is during Autumn(September, October & November) and Spring(March, April & May). During these seasons the weather will be clear, flowers will bloom on the way, the charm of the atmosphere can be felt by the heart, you will get the chance to be involved in different festivals, hallucinating views of the Himalayas can be seen and including everything the trekking path will be easier and fun.

 

Is a Visa Required to trek Bhutan ?

Except the citizens of India, Bangladesh and Maldives all visitors will need a visa to visit Bhutan. Bhutan Trekking Permit is compulsory for all individual international tourists.

 

How long does it take to trek Bhutan Druk Yul ?

Bhutan Druk Yul trek is a journey of 8 days. This journey will start and end at Kathmandu. In between you will travel to Paro, Thimphu, Wangduephodrang and Punakha and various magnificent places . You will get a full day for sightseeing of some of the most amazing world heritage sites in Kathmandu before departure.

 

Why is Bhutan known as the land of Thunder Dragon ?

According to Tibetan and Bhutanese Mythology Durk means Thunder Dragon. They have acknowledged it as the Bhutanese National Symbol and included it on the national anthem, national emblem and national flag. In Dzongkha Bhutan is called Druk Yul "Kingdom of Druk" thus also known as Land of thunder Dragon.

 

What to wear in Bhutan ?

While on the Journey to Bhutan there are no restrictions on clothing but make sure it is comfortable and suits the environment. We recommend lightweight walking shoes, full sleeve light wool clothes, good sunglass, a hat and lastly a trekking jacket. If you are traveling Bhutan in winter we advise you to pack woolen clothes to keep yourself warm.
Note: You should try to avoid body revealing clothes as much as you can and make sure to do it while visiting cultural heritage.
