Sex tourism is the process of traveling foreign countries and engaging on sexual activities specially with prostitutes in exchange of the payment. World Tourism Organization(WTO) defines sex tourism as “trips organized from within the tourism sector, or from outside this sector but using its structures and networks, with the primary purpose of effecting a commercial sexual relationship by the tourist with residents at the destination”.
Sex tourism is viable on the countries where sex work is legal. These country uses Sex tourism as the source to increase tourist traffic. Which directly helps in uplifting the economy of those countries. The countries like , Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands (particularly Amsterdam), Kenya, Colombia, Thailand, Brazil, Cambodia, Cuba, and Indonesia (particularly Bali) are in vogue destinations. Prohibition: According to The Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act Number 5, 2064(2008). Criminalizes prostitution and living of the earnings of prostitution by including it in the definition of human trafficking in Nepal. Hence, Sex Tourism Is strictly prohibited in Nepal. Government punishes severely to the culprits involving on any such activities.
Out Law( Unauthentic): As information from some unauthentic sources still there are various areas where exchanging human flesh for money(Prostitution) is still available. Thamel, Sundhara, New Buspark and Baglung Bus Park are mentioned as out law areas . In Spite of being illegal we can still find prostitution in Nepal, although Authorities and laws trying to stop sex industry. This underground trade we can find it on different streets and going against government policies.
Conclusion: Hence, Sex Tourism is illegal in Nepal. If any tourism industry is found to be involved in these kinds of activities the government will take lethal steps. Huge amount of money is charged, possibility of lifelong ban on that Industry and confinement of involved convicted people.
