Trip Introduction:

Island peak climb (also known as ImjaTse) at the level of 6,189 meters with Gokyo to EBC Island peak  trek is an amusing experience aimed for an active trekkers and the one with the experience of peak climbing. A view just like an Island situated between icebergs when seen from Dingboche village is the reason for this peak named as an "Island peak". It is one of the busy and popular climbing peaks in the Khumbu region which is merged with the Everest Base Camp trek. It was first climbed in 1956 by Hans-Rudolf, Von Gunten and two unknown sherpas; since then many travellers has made a successful climb.

 

After a short scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla(2,800m/9,184ft), the bold stride moves ahead towards a beautifully crafted Himalayan town which is nestled along the crescent shaped hill slopes, Namche bazaar. With great preparations each footsteps takes to the paradisiacal villages like Dole, Machhermo, Gokyo village from where the lifestyle of Sherpas can be explored and get familiar with many other ancient crafts, monuments and culture of people in Khumbu region of Nepal which is disparate from any other places. Looking onto the grand Ngozumpa glacier which is considered as the biggest glacier in Nepal and the magnificient view of Gokyo Lake (4,750m/15,580ft), the highest freshwater lakesystem in Nepal makes everyone admire the land of amuse. Climbers are warmed up by the experienced climbing crew a day before climbing and the best tented camp is provided during the period to ensure the travellers comfort. Mountaineering is often done before the usual expected time than any other day to avoid the obstacles that may create due to wind blow during the mid-day. Enjoy the great moments from the top of the peak by catching the sight of spectacular glacier, Mt. Lhotse, Mt Makalu, Mt Nuptse, Mt AmaDablam and many other mountains with wondrous sky above. Then, a way back is made towards the basecamp of the Island peak following the same route. Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

Adventure Mountain Nepal Trekking and Climbing’s airport arrival and departure representative will meet you at the airport as per your arrival schedule. He/she welcome you and drive to the hotel. Check-in hotel and take a rest or relaxation time at Hotel. Then you can have a free excursion to know the surroundings and visit our office to get brief information of Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar Trek elevation, we also conduct an introduction program with trekking leader and official team.

Day 02 Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft altitude) & trek to Phakding (2,650m/8692ft altitude) (half an hr fly & 4 hrs walk)

Early in the morning drive to Domestic terminal of Tribhuwan airport and take a flight for about 30 minutes to Tenzing Hillary airport Lukla. Lukla is the beautiful valley which is surrounded by High Mountain and hills from all direction. Make sure the backpacks and all stuffs fully arranged to get started the trek towards Phakding. The easy and scenic trail follows soft descends to the bank of Dudh Koshi River, follow the river bank of the river before we reach at Ghat. After there we continuously walk gentle ascend to Phakding. We visit several Gompas, Monasteries and beautiful stone carving (written Buddhist scripts) all the way to Phakding.

Day 03 Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft altitude) (5-6 hrs walk)

Early breakfast at teahouse. Follow ascent trail through pine forest. We have to cross several suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi River, gradually walk via Benkar, Chumoa and Monjo to reach at check post of Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park where we have to record our National Park entry permit. With a walk of zigzag ascends and descends, mostly uphill takes us towards the capital of Sherpa people at Namche Bazaar. We can have a beautiful view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru Peak and other.

Day 04 Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion around the places

We are already above 3,000 meters from sea level at Namche Bazaar, it is a perfect way to acclimatize by resting and exploring around at Namche Bazaar before ascending to higher altitudes. As health experts suggest to keep moving and stay active to adapt to the weather, today we can take a walk towards the Khumjung monastery (an important Buddhist monastery to explore) or ascend up to the Syangboche viewpoint. Over there from Syangboche, we can have excellent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru, and other snow-capped peaks. In the evening, we can explore around the Bazaar, can use ATMs, use internet cyber, cafes and restaurants to be close with locals as well as learn the unique culture, traditions and lifestyles of Sherpa’s.

Day 05 Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,040m/13,251ft altitude) (5-6 Hrs walk)

The trails easy within the begging up to Kyangjuma & climb steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forests, which subside to fragrant stands of juniper and enormous conifers as the elevation increases. This trek is particularly beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. the paths pass many Kharkas, summer settlements used when Sherpas bring herds of yaks to graze in these high pastures.
The route passes through the settlement s of Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) to Dole where there’re few hotels. The views of Khumbila and Tawache (6542m) are incredible throughout the day!! Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 06 Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4,410m/13,578ft altitude) (3-4 hrs walk)

The trail climbs to Lambara at (4220m) and Luza at (4360m). The trails are steep in most places because it climbs through brush junipers. There’re Kharkas whenever there's a flat spot with a slight hint of water.
The trails still climb along the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machhermo at (4410m). Here rumour was in Machhermo in 1974 that Yeti killed three yaks and attacked a Sherpa woman. this is often the foremost credit yeti incident ever reported. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Day 07 Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo Lake (4,750m/15,580ft altitude) (4-5 Hrs walk)

We climbs a ridge for a superb view both down the valley to Kantega and up towards Cho-Oyu (8201m). Beyond the ridge the valley widens because the trail passes through Pangka at (4390m) then descends to the riverbank before beginning of hop on to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. It’s a steep climb up the moraine, switch backing alongside the stream to the primary small Lake at (4650m), where a family of green Brainy ducks resides. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 08 Early morning ascent to Gokyo Ri (5,483m/17,984ft altitude) and trek to Thangna (4,650m/15,252ft altitude) (6 Hrs walk)

Wake up early and climb up to the Gokyo-Ri, for bird's eye view of Mahalangur Himalayan range, it takes approximately 2hrs climb to the highest of the height , providing a bird's eye view of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Tawache & an excellent looking of Ngozumpa glacier a largest glacier in Nepal. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Then we will further trek to Thangna.

Day 09 Trek from Thangna to Dzongla (4,843m/15,885ft altitude) via Cho La pass (5,368m/17,607ft altitude) (6-7 Hrs walk)

Today may be a long trek starting before sunrise at 4/5 am to succeed in the travel by 9-10 am otherwise weather will greatly affect our journey. We cross over at an altitude of 5300 meters we might be exposed to strong winds if crossing too late.
We start to climb steeply that's regularly used and straightforward to follow. However, the matter may arise thanks to the altitude and snow. It often causes terrible problems to cross the pass if it's covered by snow. As you reach the highest , you're rewarded by the magnificent views, then we descend to the Dzongla at noon. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 10 Trek from Dzongla to Lobuche (4,928m/16,164ft altitude) (4-5 hrs walk)

Today we will further move towards Lobuche by exploring the mountains, landscapes and small villages on the way.

Day 11 Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,160m/16,925ft altitude) & continue to Everest Base Camp (5,380m/17,646ft altitude) then back to Gorakshep (6-7 hrs walk)

The path continues gently up the valley then climbs steeply into the moraine of the Khumbu glacier.The views are getting better and better with Pumori getting closer and the West face of Nuptse towering above you. Gorak Shep is found at 5140m and is that the highest camp on this trek. It often gets quite cold in the dark, -20C isn't unusual in October also.

Day 12 Morning hike to Kalapathar (5,545m/18,187ft altitude) and trek to Lobuche (5-6 hrs walk)

We start trek at early in the morning at round 4:00 A.M. to Kalapathar for sunrise view over the Himalayas. We walk continuous ascend around 2 hours to reach Kala Pathar. When the first ray of sun strike the mountain it turns into Golden color which seems pretty amazing. Take picture of golden Mountain and soaring around Kala Pathar return back to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then we start gradual descend trail all the way to Pheriche.

Day 13 Trek from Lobuche to Dingboche. 4-5 Hrs walk

On this day, we will explore Dingboche, the culture and lifestyle of people at Dingboche and the giant mountains

Day 14 Trek from Dingboche to Island Peak Base Camp (5,087m/16,685ft altitude) 6-7 Hrs walk

From Dingboche, we make a leisurely start following the Imja Valley with great views of Ama Dablam dominating the skyline and follow the moraines that be due to Lhotse (8501meters) towards the sand flats at Pareshaya Gyab. we'll reach within the mid-afternoon. are going to be a tented camp for the next two days and you'll be having camp food cooked by our professional cook. Overnight at tented camp, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.
Pre-Climb Training: After lunch, our guides will provide training on peak climbing techniques and using climbing gears like ice axe , climbing boot and crampons, harness, ascender, etc and on the way to go up and down using ropes. Although it's not mandatory to possess prior training experience for Island Peak Climbing, we believe that some training experience will step up your confidence and climbing skills, thus increasing the probabilities of scaling the summit also on fully enjoy the experience.

Day 15 Climb Island Peak (6,189m/20,299ft altitude) and back to Base Camp (8-9 Hrs ascend/descend)

Island Peak Ascent (6,189m), we start our climb early within the morning, generally around 1 AM. within the beginning, we climb the rock gully. This is often not difficult but there are several short rock steps to climb before we emerge on the proper side of the gully. The route then follows a ridgeline, which results in an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier.
We need to fasten for the glacier because it contains several crevasses. The guides will fix a rope wherever necessary. A steep snow slope leads us onto the summit ridge. After enjoying the summit views, and taking pictures. overnight at island peak base camp.

Day 16 Trek from Island Peak Base Camp to Dingboche (5-6 Hrs walk)

Early morning after breakfast we descend to Dingboche for overnight. Overnight guesthouse/tent, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 17 Trek from Dingboche to Namche Bazaar. (6-7 hrs walk)

Leaving the mountains behind us our descent takes us through various towns of Orsho, Somare and Pangboche, Tengboche then Pungki Thanka and complete steep to Kyangjuma, and easier trail to Namche. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 18 Trek from Namche Bazar to Lukla. (5-6 Hrs walk)

Breakfast at teahouse. Last day ofIsland Peak Climbing with Gokyo to EBC Trek follows descend trail to Phakding. We have to cross Suspension Bridge of Dudh Koshi, pass through pin and rhododendron forest with different prayer flags and stone rocks on the way back to Lukla.

Day 19 Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

Early morning breakfast at lodge. Walk to Lukla airport for schedule flight. Adventure Mountain Nepal Trekking and Climbings’ airport arrival and departure representative will meet you at the Kathmandu airport. Drive to hotel. At the evening feel free for leisure and personal activities such as Shopping, markets explore, spa, massage, rest and relax can be an option.

Day 20 Spare day. Free for personal activities or additional activities on request.

This is a day as a spare which can use with rest, relaxation and free walk around the market. Day trip in request: Sightseeing, Meditation, Paragliding, Short Hiking, Mountain flight and other activities can be done according to you plan. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner together with entire team of Adventure Mountain Nepal.

Day 21 Farewell, departure transfer to Tribhuwan International Airport.

Our airport arrival and departure representative will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your scheduled flight.
